Oranda Goldfish are a popular and elegant fancy goldfish variety known for their rounded bodies, flowing double tails, and the distinctive fleshy head growth called a wen. This soft, bumpy crown develops as the fish matures and gives the Oranda its unmistakable appearance.
Orandas come in a wide variety of colors including solid orange, red, black, blue, calico, and the well-known Red Cap Oranda, which features a bright red wen atop a white body. Their graceful swimming style and ornamental features make them a beautiful centerpiece fish in larger aquariums.
These goldfish are peaceful and social, thriving when kept with other fancy goldfish varieties that share their slower swimming pace. Because the wen can grow large, it may sometimes partially cover their eyes, so they do best in aquariums with smooth décor and gentle tank mates.
Like all goldfish, Orandas require spacious aquariums with strong filtration and regular water changes due to their heavy bioload. A varied diet of high-quality goldfish pellets, flakes, vegetables, and occasional frozen foods helps maintain healthy growth and vibrant coloration.
