A "lucy" axolotl (short for Leucistic) is a captive-bred color morph of the Mexican axolotl. They are known for their translucent pink or white skin, dark eyes, and bright red or pink gills.
- Origin: Captive-bred morph of Ambystoma mexicanum (native to Lake Xochimilco, Mexico).
- Appearance: Pale pink/white body, dark eyes (unlike golden or albino morphs), and deep pink to red external gills. "Dirty lucys" have dark freckling on their faces and bodies.
- Lifespan: Can live 10 to 15 years in captivity with proper care.
- Care Requirements: Fully aquatic; require cool water temperatures (60°F to 68°F), a spacious tank (minimum 20 gallons for one adult), pristine water quality, and a diet of earthworms or sinking pellets.
